Eligibility Requirements for Becoming a Driver

1. Basic Requirements

• Age: Drivers must be at least 21 years old.

• Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must have a Professional Driver’s License (not a Non-Professional one), which is a requirement set by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the Philippines.

• Driving Experience: Some ride-hailing companies may require a minimum of 1-2 years of driving experience, especially with the vehicle class they intend to use.

2. Vehicle Requirements

• Ownership: The vehicle must be registered under the driver’s name or have proper authorization from the registered owner (such as a notarized authorization letter).

• Vehicle Condition: The vehicle must be in good condition, with all necessary parts functioning correctly (lights, brakes, horn, etc.).

• Vehicle Type: The car should be a four-door vehicle with enough seating capacity, typically accommodating at least four passengers.

• Age of Vehicle: Depending on the ride-hailing service, vehicles older than a certain number of years (usually 7-10 years) may not be accepted.

• Vehicle Registration: The car must have a valid Certificate of Registration (CR) and an Official Receipt (OR) from the LTO.

• Comprehensive Insurance: The vehicle must be insured, ideally with comprehensive insurance coverage, including passenger insurance.

3. Documentation Requirements

• Professional Driver’s License: A copy of the Professional Driver’s License must be submitted.

• Vehicle OR/CR: Copies of the Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration from the LTO.

• Proof of Insurance: A copy of the insurance policy showing that the vehicle is insured.

• NBI Clearance: A National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance to ensure the driver has no criminal record.

• Police Clearance: Some ride-hailing companies might also require a police clearance.

4. Additional Requirements

• Drug Test: A recent drug test may be required, particularly in compliance with LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) regulations.

• Health Certificate: Some companies may require a medical certificate to ensure the driver is physically fit to operate a vehicle.

• Training/Orientation: Applicants may need to attend a training session or orientation provided by the ride-hailing company to understand the app, customer service standards, and safety protocols.

5. Ride-Hailing App Requirements

• Background Check: The ride-hailing company will typically conduct a background check, which may include checking driving history, criminal records, and other relevant checks.

• Onboarding Process: Once all documents are submitted and approved, the driver will need to complete the onboarding process, which might include setting up the app, test drives, and familiarization with the company’s procedures.

6. Compliance with LTFRB Regulations

• TNVS Accreditation: The vehicle must be accredited as a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) by the LTFRB. This involves applying for a Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) or a Provisional Authority (PA) to legally operate as a TNVS vehicle.

• LTFRB Sticker: A TNVS vehicle must display an LTFRB-issued sticker to indicate compliance with regulatory requirements.

7. Fees

• Application Fees: There may be fees associated with the application process, including fees for processing documents, background checks, and LTFRB accreditation.

• Commission Fees: Drivers should be aware that the ride-hailing company typically takes a percentage of each fare as a commission.
